Ethiopian Premier League’s (EPL) newest club Mekele City FC (M City) announced the inclusion of three new foreign players to its squad on Wednesday. The three players joining Mekele include two Ghanaians and one from Equatorial Guinea.
The Spanish Embassy will be hosting, collaborating and performing with world renowned Spanish classical guitarist, Rafael Serrallet in a concert, which will be held on Monday June 29 at 7:00 PM at Villa Verde off Ethio-China Avenue.
Hailed as a guitarist of profound and thoughtful artistry, Valencian born Rafael Serrallet is one of the biggest names in Spanish music and is internationally recognized as an acclaimed musician.
Having performed in over 70 countries, solo and with leading orchestras worldwide, his passionate performances and unique musical interpretation have been described as 'spellbinding and captivating...skillfully combining the knowledge and wisdom of the old guitar Maestros’ with modern day techniques, inspiring audiences of all ages'.
Monday’s performance will feature guitar. The repertoire will include masterworks of Spanish composers including Granados, Tárrega, Albéniz and Sanz.
More than a guitarist, Serrallet is also a comprehensive musician having studied and performed extensively in conducting, chamber music and choral singing. Serrallet will also have musical activities in Yared School of Music.
The Nightingales @ GetFam
The National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Philippines, the Embassy of the Philippines in Cairo and the Filipino community in Ethiopia have organized a concert that will feature the Nightingales.
The concert, which is scheduled to be held at GetFam Hotel – off Haile Gebreselassie Street – on Saturday June 10, is to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Ethiopia and the 119th anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence.
The Nightingales is an impressive and powerful duo featuring two of the youngest, yet most formidable classical singers in the Philippines today. Having been honed at a very young age, the duo bring magic of the opera to the fore, with a rare blend of musicality, and perform a wide-range repertoire consisting of opera arias, Broadway classics, and even popular standards, all in a unique style of singing – bel canto or beautiful voice.
The concert starts at 6:00 PM and entrance is free.
Yegna final season starts Sunday
Having amassed a loyal following of nearly two million fans in only two years, the Yegna radio drama will air its much anticipated final season starting this week. The season will start on June 4, 2017 and will be airing Sundays on Fana FM and Sheger FM at 1:00 PM and Amara FM/AM at 5:00 PM.
The Yegna radio drama follows the lives of five young women from different walks of life coming together through their love of music. Together they help one another navigate the challenges of what it means to be a girl in Ethiopia.
In season 9, the Yegna girls aspire to turn their dramas into action by challenging the negative social norms holding them back. The most emotional and heart wrenching of all the Yegna radio dramas to date, season 9, is both a season of endings and new beginnings as the five girls find out what the future holds in store for them.
Ballet @ National Theatre, City Hall
Nine ballet dancers from five countries – America, Australia, South Africa, Japan and Chile – will grace the stages of the Ethiopian National Theatre and City Hall on June 7 and 8 for the second time in Addis Ababa.
The first performance will take place at the Ethiopian National Theatre on June 7, and all proceeds from ticket sales will go to “Positive Action community Organization (PACO),” a charity that feeds nearly 120 impoverished persons living with HIV. Scenes from classical ballets as well as newer contemporary works created by choreographers from the 21st century will be part of the dance program.
Melaku Belay of Fendika and Destino Dance Company will also showcase traditional Ethiopian and modern dancers, including performances by disabled dancers. A second, limited performance will be held on June 8 at City Hall for underprivileged children, students, dancers and other guests.
