Addis Ababa is turning 130 years old this month. That is more than four times my lifespan.

Whenever I get into my weekly routine of writing this column, I always find it difficult to write about one thing.

A good part of this week was spent trying to process different things at government offices, and as expected nothing went as planned.

I feel as though I have been observing a lot of “moments of silence” in the past few weeks. 

I was in Nairobi last week and always enjoy making the trip to this city. 

There are many names given to this generation of young people. Some call us millennial, others generation Y. This generally refers to the group of people born in the 1980s, or end of 1970s up until end of 1990s.

We hear often that Africa is the youngest continent.

Getting around Addis is not as easy as it used to be, logistically speaking. To begin with the city has expanded so much that it’s difficult to keep up with the new homes, buildings and neighborhoods that are coming up.

I was in Kampala this past week, a trip I had long wanted to take. It is interesting how flying to Entebbe and flying to Nairobi from Addis are almost the same amount of hours but it is much easier to go Kenya than Uganda—the main issue of course being securing a visa.
