Ethiopian Premier League’s (EPL) newest club Mekele City FC (M City) announced the inclusion of three new foreign players to its squad on Wednesday. The three players joining Mekele include two Ghanaians and one from Equatorial Guinea.

Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) titleholders St. George FC announced the appointment of Portuguese coach Carlos Manuel Vaz Pinto on Wednesday. The new coach took over the team on a two-year contract, the club said.

Bad start for the Walias

One of highlights of the 2016/17 football season in Ethiopia is the African Cup of Nation’s (AFCON) qualifier at which Ghana trashed the Ethiopian National Team (aka the Walias) 5-0 on the first leg of the qualifier. The Walias did rather poorly in the match compared to their performance previously. 

A branch of Gishen Pharmacy, an Ethiopian pharmacy chain implicated in the recent Guardian investigative report for dispensing performance enhancing drugs over-the-counter without requiring prescription, was ordered to cease operations this week by the Addis Ababa City Administration Food, Medicine and Healthcare Administration & Control Authority after an investigation into the allegation conducted in the course of the past three weeks.

Banker’s midfield Binyam Belay, who recently has unsuccessful campaign trying out for the BundsLiga 2 side Dynamo Dresden, has officially signed a three-year contract for an Albanian based club Skenderbeu, the club confirmed this week. The player has secured a three-year contract with possibility of the continuation for another year.

Mo Farah brought his track career to an end in the most fitting fashion, producing a dramatic 5000m victory at the Weltklasse Zurich on Thursday (24), the first of two 2017 IAAF Diamond League finals.

Ethiopian Premier League (EPL) side Dedebit has parted ways with its longtime forward Dawit Fikadu, who has signed for the Southern capital’s club Hawasa City this week.

The Ethiopian athletics team was in London for the 2017 IAAF Championships, at which another 203 nations were also participating. The championships, held August 4 to13, saw superb performance by Ethiopians, and revealed areas for further improvement as well.
